A 4year-old Malayan tiger called Nadia has been confirmed testing positive to Coronavirus at the Bronx zoo which is one of the main tourists attractions in New York and also one of the largest in the USA. The tiger showed the symptoms on March 27.

Bronx zoo has been closed to the public since March 16 following the order of the New York state government for the closure of non essential services, stay at home, social distancing guidelines to stop the spread of Coronavirus, however, activities in the zoo have to continue.

The animals still need attention and care from about 300 workers to feed and cater for their needs as they can’t be left alone during this pandemic. These 300 workers are considered essential and were selected from the overall 700 plus workers of the zoo which has about 6000 animals .They work in shifts during this hard time of Coronavirus pandemic taking care of the animals and at the same time keeping to social distance order.

Therefore, you might be wondering how could a tiger get COVID-19.There is the probability that one of these zoo workers;already with the symptoms, might have transmitted the virus to the tiger while feeding it at a few meters distance. And some other tigers and lions in the zoo are showing similar symptoms too but there is no confirmation yet of their getting COVID-19 as at the time of this article .

Although, there is no sign of cats or dogs spreading this disease to human, sick people should kind of limit or even avoid contact with animals. That way, everyone is safe.
