A mass shooting at 36th street with 4th avenue subway station in Brooklyn has left 16 people injured, 10 with gunshots and 5 in critical but stable condition.
The incident happened in the early morning of Tuesday April 14th at about 8.24am in a Manhattan bound N train at 36th station.
According to the police, the suspect is about 5-foot-5 tall with a heavy built, wearing a gas mask, a green construction vest and a red hoodie sweat shirt. He then took canister of his bag, opened it and the train was filled with smoke and he fired many times in the subway and the platform injuring many commuters.
After, several undetonated devices, spent ammunition magazines were found in the subway but no gun found as of now and the suspect at large .
The Governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, made a press conference at the spot condemning gun shooting “We say no more, no more mass shooting, no more distrupting life,” she said.
A 62 years old Frank R. James is now declared a person of interest by the police and wanted for questioning. A U-haul Van which was spotted at the local is in his name.
The police is not ruling out an act of terrorism and it’s been difficult to get image access to the surveillance cameras at the exact local because of malfunctioning. They intend to get some images from commuters phones and cameras in the surrounding areas to be able to get to the root of the incident.
The first responders, NYPD, FDNY and others were able to get to the scene of the incident providing the necessary support and help to the victims while some subway train lines were suspended or delayed and stations nearby interdicted to facilitate investigations. Subway shuttle buses were provided along 4th avenue to ease commuters’ sufferings.
