Brandon Hernández Huentecol, a 17-year-old Mapuche youth from the town of Curaco in the southern Chilean town of Collipulli, was brutally attacked by the militarized police of Carabineros, who shot the victim with a shotgun. He remains at vital risk in the German clinic in Temuco, where he was admitted urgently.

The young Mapuche will be operated surgically in the sanitary enclosure, where the medical team will try to extract from his abdominal area more than 140 pellets as a result of the brutal aggression committed by one of the police forces belonging to the Special Forces, which has police staff in exile at Pailahueque.

The violent action took place on the R-49 route, on the way to Curaco, to where the militarized policemen arrived with an aggressive attitude, according to the Mapuche milieu, Werkén, who cites testimonies of eyewitnesses, who said that this was framed in the controversial, “identity control”. Subsequent to this fact, a discussion began, because the police tried to do this procedure against a 13-year-old boy, who was physically brought to the ground, after which, he began to shout for help. At this moment, the young Hernández Huentecol received the firepower, and later, a group of people present reacted indignantly with the throwing of stones and shouts against the police, who had to move the victim with great urgency to Angol, and then to Temuco, with his relatives and companions.

Various support actions have been activated in the territory of Walmapu (region of La Araucanía), in solidarity with the affected one, his family, the Mapuche political prisoners, and with the communities that claim territories usurped at the hands of the Chilean State, rally at 11:00 a.m. in the German clinic in Temuco (Germany avenue with street France), in support of the wounded young man, and the velatón to be held on Monday, December 19, at 7:00 pm, at the monument to Caupolicán de Temuco, to commemorate the deaths of two workers in private forestry companies, an activity that will be joined by different social, political and human rights organizations in Chile, who will also address this extreme violence against the Mapuche.
