The show “Mãe Fora da Caixa” meaning “Mother out of Box,” which was a public success, filled the Teatro das Artes, in São Paulo, before its season was interrupted in March by the Coronavirus pandemic. Now, with the authorization for theaters to reopen, Miá Mello returns to the stage to talk about the various dilemmas involving motherhood.

The show re-opened on November 6, with sessions on Fridays at 9pm, Saturdays and Sundays at 5:30 pm. Being a monologue and as it is in a theater with more than 800 seats, the production of the show believes in the viability of the face-to-face tour with reduced public capacity and respecting all safety and health protocols to avoid the spread of Covid-19.

The play, inspired by the best-selling book of the same name by Thaís Vilarinho, is directed by Joana Lebreiro and written by Cláudia Gomes (writer for Rede Globo and creator of the blog Humor de Mãe) and deals with great humor about the dilemmas involving real motherhood. She was nominated for the Humor Prize in the Best Show, Text and Performance categories, winning in the Direction category.

Miá Mello highlights the expectation of the return after so long without being able to act. “I am very happy to be back, during these months everything was very intense, I saw many concepts like mother and wife, so being on the scene again speaking a text that has always been very powerful for me is even more relevant.”

The show debuted in São Paulo in January, after a successful season in Rio de Janeiro, originally started for eight weeks and later turned into a five-month run. With crowded sessions and about to repeat the feat of Rio de Janeiro, the season was suddenly interrupted leaving scenery and light mounted in the expectation of a lap that ended up taking longer than expected. “How many mothers were born and how many were found pregnant in the pandemic,” asks producer Carlos Grun.

Significantly, one of the assets of the play is the ability to identify with the public. Miá establishes a confessional tone of someone who seems to be telling personal stories involving the audience in laughter and tears, with moments of complicity and interaction. “In times of social detachment where everything is more intense, we will maintain this connection through looking at history and the exchange of experiences that are always valuable.”

In addition to the show, Miá records the first season of Pode Explicar, “You can explain,” on Nat Geo channel, a talk show of interviews with bias in science and technology. With 16 episodes, each program brings a specific theme from the universe of science and a guest who has some (or a lot) of experience to contribute to the conversation. Among the guests of the new season are Mônica Martelli, Maria Boop, Fábio Porchat, Rita Von Hunty, Sabrina Sato, among others.
