The legendary artist has just entered the last decade in double digits. It’s a milestone. A number that literally tells a lot of things, but does not necessarily reflect a life well lived, of a person who defied whatever challenges came to be lived. It’s not easy to be authentic. Yoko Ono is like that. She courageously embraced exploring and showing her potential to anyone, with no reservations. She is also known for being this person in music, visual arts, cinema, culture, media; it surpassed limits in all these aspects already in the 60’s and like few others. Her many facets and what she came from were there even before she was “reduced to just” as John Lennon’s wife as many know or refer to her.
With an amazing career, Yoko knew – and knows – that she can change the world, and that is what she has demonstrated in each movements and with an incredible mind. Madeline Bocaro, author of the book In Your Mind: The Infinite Universe Of Yoko Ono, talks about this. In the book, Boccaro also highlights how wonderful it is to see her witnessing appreciation for her art on a global level as a reward for her efforts, including creating very positive changes for women.
The meeting of Yoko and John cemented their individual power and their union was a quantum leap, becoming a power couple, combining music with conceptual art in an exquisite way to spread messages of love, peace, women power, hope, shedding light and creating a lot together around human themes, uncomfortable ones many times.
According to former Beatle Paul McCartney, she transformed John’s life towards the path he intended to go, that the band had already ended before they ended, and not the fallacy that she was the catalyst for the band’s breakup. A guilt created by fans who would like everything to stay as it was, perhaps.
Yoko never stopped following and creating so that her creations from any part of her journey can reach subsequent generations. Countless birthday wishes could be seen on social media to celebrate her unique and inspirational life on February 18th.
Happy birthday to Yoko!
