The Thailand’s most important holiday known as Songkran, was the official New Year celebration until 1888, when it was switched to a fixed date of April 1st and became a traditional holiday that takes three days of celabration, even amid covid-19 .
Thais celebrated the holiday, but without the traditional water-splashing, parties or concerts.
This year Songkran started on April 13 through April 15 and had festivities as normal but respecting the COVID-19 rules to prevent the spread of the virus.
People started cleaning their homes in preparation for the festival, having some street parades, get together at their temples and relatives’ homes.
The celebration happens
with traditional aspects of Songkran like the rare and traditional Thai food, snacks and desserts, local arts and cultural performances.
