2019 Pan American Games gave the public great contests and a nice prospect to next year Olympic Games
Almost three weeks of great competitions. That’s what the 2019 Pan American games, hosted in Lima, Peru, presented to the continent in more than 50 sports being played.
United States, as usual, was the dominant force. Even with some of the athletes in various sports coming from universities, they were capable of building a huge medal gap to the second place Brazil. US finished the competition with 120 golds, 88 silvers and 85 bronzes.
The brazilians did a great job as well. Letting Mexico and Canada behind, they constructed a fine trajectory through the Pan American games and achieved important results in sports like swimming, athletics and gymnastics. 171 podiums were its most premiated participation of all time.
The hosts made their effort to correspond crowd’s support. 39 medals were also Peru’s best number in history. Used to play a modest part on this competition, they surpassed 2015 Toronto edition, when they got 12 silverwares.
Unfortunately, some global Pre-Olympic tournaments happened or will happen close to the Pan Americans. It led some countries and sports to be represented not by its full strength. However, it was a great opportunity to see young talents battling for a spot on the podium.
Tokyo 2020 is coming. Some countries have shown they are up to the challenge on those last 19 days and the countdown is still on for the athletes to improve and earn a shot in world biggest sports event.
