How infrastructure improvements can boost global air transport efficiency and reduce environmental impact
Bruno Gutieri Bordoni, a specialist in aviation safety and continued airworthiness, has stood out for developing innovative solutions that combine sustainability and operational efficiency in the airport sector. With more than 20 years of experience and solid academic training from the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA), he seeks to transform Brazilian airport infrastructure, reducing gas emissions and optimizing fuel consumption.
Identification of bottlenecks and sustainable solutions
Bordoni identified critical problems at airports in Curitiba, Brasília, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. He points out that the lack of taxiways close to the headlands and the absence of adequate infrastructure for maneuvers in the apron increase the runway occupancy time, delay operations and increase fuel consumption. These structural flaws have a direct impact on increasing carbon dioxide emissions.
As a solution, Bordoni proposes the redesign of taxiways and the reorganization of movement areas. These adjustments, according to him, can bring benefits similar to those observed in international projects, such as Singapore’s Changi Airport Sustainability Initiative, which reduced CO₂ emissions by up to 15% in ground operations.
Economic and environmental benefits
The strategies developed by Bordoni aim to balance operational efficiency and sustainability. “Our goal is to show that sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand. By prioritizing efficient air flow, we reduce carbon emissions and costs, generating benefits for passengers, airlines and the environment”, he explains.
Studies show that the reduction in flight time has generated positive impacts on the costs of companies and on the lives of thousands of Brazilians. Bruno also highlights the importance of raising awareness among managers and authorities about the need to prioritize the flow of air traffic in the airport infrastructure.
A trajectory of excellence in aviation
With more than 10,500 flight hours on aircraft from manufacturers such as Embraer, Airbus and Boeing, Bruno combines his vast experience as a pilot with technical knowledge in airport operations. He is recognized for his pursuit of excellence and his work in multidisciplinary teams in the airline industry.
Bruno Bordoni’s trajectory reinforces the importance of innovation in airport infrastructure, not only to mitigate environmental impacts, but also to boost operational efficiency. Their work represents a significant step towards the sustainable future of aviation.
