Dom Cláudio Hummes, the Brazilian Catholic Cardinal who is known for advocating for the poor, dies at the age of 87, after suffering a long sickness .
Hummes who was born in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul, was named the Archbishop of São Paulo by Pope John Paul II in 1998 and few years later became the Cardinal of Brazil.
Dom Claudio, who was a very close friend of Pope Francis died undergoing cancer treatment.
His funeral took place at Se Cathedral in São Paulo with tributes and wreaths from many, among whom is Governor of São Paulo, Ridrigo Garcia.
