With the advantage gained in the first leg after winning 1-0, Palmeiras did what was necessary on May 30th, before Sampaio Corrêa, to defeat the opponent, this time by two zero, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Brazil Cup. The other round of the round 16 will be held next week for the definition of the classified teams.
Palmeiras little effort in the first step, while Sampaio Corrêa showed a lot of speed and determination. Despite the willpower, the technical difference between the two teams was clear. In this way, Palmeiras only kept possession of the ball, letting time pass.
Despite few scoring attempts from both sides, the green and white team was more efficient, and opened the scoring in the 39th minute with Mayke after Dudu’s heel pass.
The advantage was already good and was even greater early in the second half, when Zé Rafael extended the score in the fourth minute. Thus, the team of Maranhão became easy prey. And in the second half, the visitors sought only the goal of honor. Even trying to balance the match, again the Palmeiras imposed.
Involving the opponent, the owners of the house created other opportunities for goal, but lacked improvement at the time of finalization. 2 – 0 was the score after the first half. And the team of coach Luiz Felipe Scolari left the field with the guaranteed classification in a quiet manner.
