About 50 People Killed in a jail in Manaus-Brazil
At least 50 people have been killed during a riot in a jail in the Brazilian city of Manaus, capital of the state of Amazonas, after two rival criminal factions clash, according to Globo television.
The clashes began the afternoon of Sunday, January 1 and lasted more than 17 hours. The prisoners surrendered their weapons and surrendered on Monday morning. In addition, six inmates have been beheaded and their bodies thrown out of prison.
During the riot, some 12 guards were taken hostage by the prisoners, but they have already been released. Local media also report that as a result of the fighting several prisoners have escaped from the prison, although at the moment the exact figure is unknown.
