In front of an audience that included the city’s leading print and broadcast media, alongside international skateboarding stars Letícia Bufoni, Pedro Barros, Keegan Palmer and Yuto Horigome, Mayor Ricardo Nunes highlighted the city’s network of 170 municipal skateparks while outlining the strategic significance of hosting a major international championship. He emphasized both the city’s long-term sporting ambitions and the direct economic impact generated by global-scale events.
“São Paulo is the largest city in Latin America and has a strong skateboarding heritage. Hosting this Championship is a bold initiative that reinforces the city’s global visibility and strengthens our position on the international sporting calendar,” said Mayor Nunes.
World Skate President Sabatino Aracu echoed the sentiment: “We believe São Paulo is the ideal stage for a World Championship. Why? Because it is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world — and a true skateboarding capital. There is a unique energy here; you can feel the strength of Brazil within the global skateboarding movement.”
World Skate extends its appreciation to the Mayor’s Office and all conference panelists whose collaboration made possible the launch of what is set to become the largest skateboarding event ever held in Brazil this weekend.
